About the Books

Poem jokes that make you laugh! Poetry that is fun to read encourages slow or reluctant readers. Because it rhymes, it is easy to remember. Once remembered, it is easy to read to others, which builds reading confidence. L.W. Lewis has performed his poetry at adult comedy clubs and classrooms alike. Adults find humor in his work, as do children. These children's books are a great way to spend time with a special child!

SCHOOL TESTIMONIALS

CENTER HILL ELEMENTARY

I just wanted to thank you for what you have done for the reading program here at Center Hill.  Kids have gone crazy over your poetry.  On Saturday morning they get to choose what they want to read.  No contest, your books are always chosen.  You have really helped me generate an interest in reading. Ms. Betty

HARDY ELEMENTARY

Thank you for your time at Hardy.  Our kids love poetry.  They also loved your visit and still come into the library asking for the books.  At our inservice at the beginning of the year other librarians were talking about your books as well.  Thanks again for giving my 650 students the chance to laugh with you and poetry.  Barbara Walker

CSAS ELEMENTARY

Since Mr. Lewis's visit, we have not been able to keep his books in the library.  When the books are checked back in, someone is inevitably waiting to check it out again.  In short Mr Lewis has created a thirst of poetry in our students

As the person who purchases titles for the library, I look for books that are popular and serve a purpose for our population.  Mr. Lewis's books meet both criteria. Brittney Hamilton, Librarian

THRASHER ELEMENTARY

The children and teachers loved your visit and were turned on by poetry.  In fact, some of my male students found your books the best and would keep them in their desks for weeks until I made them return the books because they were overdue and requested by other students.  You must be doing something right!  Pam Johnston, Media Specialist

THE VILLAGE CHARTER SCHOOL

I finally pulled together the circulation stats on your books.  In the last three months Why Do Flies Eat Doggy Poop? has been checked out 32 times, The Tickle Tree 26 times, and Poodles, Tigers Monsters & You 17 times.   Alison Norton, Media specialist

RACINE ELEMENTARY

Mr. Lewis, I have no idea what you're doing but keep doing it.  Our children absolutely love your books.  Dee Collins, Media Specialist

WAKE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM

All of your books are already checked out and there is a long reserve list that will keep them circulating throughout the school year.  You make loving poetry "cool" and writing it easy.  We can't wait until your next visit.   Jennifer Smith-Wyatt
